PROJECTS
Circus for the new age
Phoenix Youth Circus Arts (PYCA) is a local organization that focuses on offering gymnastic and circus-based activities for kids, in the form of events and after school classes. PYCA’s branding doesn't resonate well with their target audience. PYCA’s brand package is dated, and the information on the website and brochures is not organized in a way that is straightforward for newcomers. Due to this potential clients who may be interested in PYCA’s services are turned away or unsure how to proceed forward with the company.
I chose these colors (red, green, yellow, blue) as they are the colors of the juggling balls used in many of PYCA’s classes. I also made the logo to mimic juggling balls as well. I wanted to keep the color palette light and took much inspiration from sites for those in similar industries (like Child’s Play AZ) but I wanted to keep the circus-like feeling. I did this using event photography, the confetti-pattern motif found throughout the branding and the use of the stylized circus fonts for emphasis. Now when potential clients want to inquire about classes, PYCA has a cohesive and well organized brand to help guide them.

Dragons on the Go
Roll 20 is on the top websites for online tabletop roleplaying games. Users can create a digital tabletop to allow for the playing of various games such as Dungeons and Dragons, Pathfinder, and much more. Roll20 does not have an app that functions in the way that the website does, unlike many of their competitors (DND Beyond, Foundry, etc). This has driven a portion of their users away from their site in favor of those who have mobile apps.
Roll20 is visually distinct from its competitors due to its pink and purple branding and that is something I wanted to emphasize. I created the gradient background with the dice pattern to help bring the branding back to the logo while also emphasizing the tabletop game aspect. I also kept that same dice shape for the buttons on the home page as well. My main goal was to maintain all of the website's main functions through the app, so users did not have to use the desktop site to do anything. I also wanted to simplify many of the complex menu’s present on Roll20’s site that would not translate well into a mobile format. This way users would not have to rely on a computer to use Roll20 at all and could get 100% use out of the site though the app. Thus ensuring that Roll20 users would not have to turn to competitors for their mobile tabletop needs.

Cactus Catching Air
Thunder Grip & Electric is a local film production and rental company, they work primarily in the Phoenix area on local film shoots and teach film lighting and electric classes. Thunder is a smaller film company compared to others in the Phoenix area. Their branding is inconsistent from their print material to their actual branded equipment (like vans, lighting rigs, electrical cables, etc) oftentimes they get mistaken for separate companies.
A cactus character has been used for some branding for Thunder, but it was rather static and had no activity that communicated what Thunder was about. I wanted to have versions of the cactus interacting with cameras and lights in the way that an actual film tech would. When the option of a van version was discussed I was initially inspired by the Magic School bus in the way that it would squash and stretch to communicate movement, I felt that it fit with the more cartoony look of the cactus character. This will make Thunder Grip & Electric stand out amongst other film companies in the area. Having the logo plastered on their work vans will allow for instant brand recognition while also telling the story of what they do at the same time.
